Common Problems - In Ground Concrete Swimming Pools
The most common problems with concrete swimming pools relate to the interior surface of the pool. Unlike a vinyl liner pool where the liner itself provides the water barrier, the concrete pool uses either tile or specialty concrete applications to provide the water barrier.
The concrete pool interior surface must be maintained both physically as well as through proper water chemistry in order to retain its water resistant qualities. Epoxy and paints are available as quick fix solutions to interior surface problems however a renovation and replacement of the interior surface of the pool may provide a more long term solution. Another problem with concrete swimming pools are structural cracks in the concrete.
While not an incredibly common problem, this as a most serious problem which can render your pool unusable and require a huge renovation in order to repair. Leaking plumbing systems and sinking or shifting pool structures are also somewhat common with concrete pool installations.
